Lamb of God

Last Sunday we sang a hymn that I have heard before, but the words rang deeper and more personal this time. It has always been encouraging to hear what inspired a songwriter to pen such a song. Or which scripture God whispered into their hearts so that they could put it to music. One of my favorite albums is Glory Revealed, which is composed by various artists, because that’s all it is, scripture put to music. There have been numerous occasions when I’ve been reading a passage and then all of a sudden I would be singing it in my head because it’s from that album. Casting Crowns has always done a great job of listing the scriptures that inspired their songs as well. So this past week I spent time taking that hymn line by line then searching God’s Word to find where those truths were found.

If you haven’t already figured out the hymn, just take a look at this post’s title (so original I know 🙂 ), it’s Lamb of God by Twila Paris. I’ll forewarn you that this post will be quite lengthy with lots of scripture references because I’m taking it pretty much right out of my devotional notebook. (And like I said I worked on it all last week.) But I do encourage you to slowly read it (maybe even in more than one sitting) and allow God to reveal His truths to you too. It’s a precious song that is full of worship to the Lamb of God.

My suggestion is to first listen to the song, then read the scriptures below, and finally listen to or sing the song again with those truths fresh on your heart and mind. It’s completely refreshing and humbling.

Lamb of God

 Your only Son, no sin to hide, but you have sent Him from your side

to walk upon this guilty sod, and to become the Lamb of God.

 Your gift of love they crucified, they laughed and scorned Him as He died;

the humble King they named a fraud, and sacrificed the Lamb of God.

O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God; I love the holy Lamb of God.

O wash me in His precious blood, my Jesus Christ the Lamb of God

I was so lost I should have died, but you have brought me to Your side

to be led by your staff and rod, and to be called a lamb of God.

O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God; I love the holy Lamb of God.

O wash me in His precious blood, till I am just a lamb of God.
